12-Day Northern Malawi Self Drive Lodge Based

When you arrive at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe, a Land & Lake representative will meet you in the arrivals area and transport you to Mitengo House for a break and overnight stay. Breakfast is included with each night's stay. Mitengo House accepts reservations and payment for dinner and drinks.

This morning, following your breakfast at Mitengo, a Land & Lake representative will pick you up and transport you to our offices in Area 3. Here, you will receive a complete vehicle handover.
After the handover (about 1 hour), you're free to drive!
You will drive north into the open road and up to the Viphya Plateau. You will spend the night at Luwawa Forest Lodge, which overlooks a dam and the forest beyond. There are horseback riding, fishing, strolling, and hiking options available. All activities can be arranged with Luwawa and paid for during your stay. A stay here includes dinner, bed, and breakfast.

Viphya Plateau is a stunning forest landscape and Luwawa Forest Lodge hosts a myriad of activities to explore the region. Horse riding at the nearby stables can be booked and paid for during your stay. Hiking and walking guides are available at the lodge and activities such as archery, cycling, and birding can be arranged to keep you busy. You can also relax in the gardens and by the dam and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. A night here includes dinner, bed and breakfast. Lunch, activities, drinks, and additional personal expenditures can be paid at the end of your stay.

You'll leave Viphya Plateau after breakfast, giving you plenty of time to reach Nyika. It's a lengthier drive today, with some 4 wheel driving through the park. You'll arrive in the middle of the afternoon and rest on the Nyika Plateau's vast plains. You will spend the night at Chelinda Lodge in your individual cabin, which includes all meals and activities. Cycling, strolling, wildlife drives, and fishing are among the activities that Chelinda may arrange for you during your visit.

You'll have a full day on Nyika with Chelinda Lodge. Today, you can unwind and explore at your leisure. Your stay includes game drives, fishing, cycling, strolling, and all meals. Nyika is home to a healthy wildlife population, including leopards and elephants, as well as an abundance of birds.

You will spend another day exploring the paradise that is the Nyika Plateau. You can explore at your leisure with Chelinda Lodge, which includes all meals and activities including cycling, walking, day and night wildlife drives, and fishing. Relax in your individual log cabin, which overlooks the plains below.

After breakfast, you will leave Nyika Plateau and gently return to the gate, passing through the lively city of Mzuzu before arriving at the peaceful lakefront waters. You will spend the night at Makuzi Beach Lodge on a room-only basis. Today, you have the option to purchase some items you may require in Mzuzu for your next journey.

Makuzi Beach Lodge will provide you with a relaxing day on the shores of Lake Malawi. During your stay, you can book and pay for your meals as well as any activities you choose to perform to explore the area. Boat rides, swimming, walking, and a visit to a nearby fishing hamlet are among the activities available.

You will leave Makuzi at your leisure. Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve is located just a short drive down the lakeshore. You will arrive in the afternoon and check into your ensuite tented cabin. Rafiki is located just outside the wildlife reserve and offers beautiful walking routes along the Bua River. During your stay, you can arrange and pay for any additional activities or meals.

You can spend the day exploring the area whichever you choose. You will enjoy a game walk or game drive within the national park, a walk along the Bua River by the lodge, or taking your vehicle to the lakeshore (just 20 minutes away) for another day at the beach. A night at Rafiki Safari Camp includes dinner, bed, and breakfast. During your stay, you can arrange and pay for additional activities, meals, and drinks.

You'll leave Nkhotakota and drive slowly back to Lilongwe. You'll make a stop en route at Kuti Wildlife Reserve, which offers horseback riding! You will arrive in Lilongwe in time to return your vehicle and check into your overnight accommodations. You will spend the night at Mitengo House on a bed and breakfast basis.

After breakfast, a Land & Lake representative will meet you at Mitengo House and transport you to the airport in time for your international flight. You will arrive at the airport three hours before departure. Say goodbye to Malawi and terminate travel services.
