5-Day Panorama, Wildlife Rehab Centre and Kruger Safari Itinerary
This morning, we will travel from Johannesburg early. Our path takes us through the Highveld's agricultural and coal mining districts before continuing to the Mpumalanga escarpment. We will explore the many sites along the Panorama Route, such as God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes, and several waterfalls in the vicinity. The Panorama Route in the Blyde River Canyon in Mpumalanga is widely regarded as one of South Africa's most attractive and popular tourist attractions. It passes through the harsh mountains of the northern Drakensberg.
In the northeastern part of the Great Escarpment, the interior plateau drops suddenly and sharply, providing spectacular views of the Lowveld lowlands up to a thousand meters below. We will arrive at Graskop late in the afternoon and settle into our comfortable accommodations. Dinner will be held at one of the town's numerous modest eateries.
Main Destination: Panorama Route (Highlight).
Accommodation options include West Lodge Bed & Breakfast, a luxury guest home located on Panorama Route (Highlight).
Following an early breakfast, we visit Bourkes Luck Potholes and the Three Rondawels vantage point overlooking the Blyde River Canyon. The view from the viewing point is often regarded as the best along the Panorama Route. We next travel across the northern Drakensberg mountains before descending into the Lowveld via the Abel Erasmus Mountain Pass, arriving at Moholoholo Forest Camp in time for lunch. The woodland camp is located beneath the escarpment's high rocks, providing a magnificent setting.
Your stay will include three delicious meals, a game drive on the reserve, a beautiful morning bush walk—where our experienced guide will introduce you to a wonderful world full of wild animals, birds, and the signs, tracks, and smells of the African bush—and, to top it all off, a visit to our world-renowned Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. Following your tour of the rehabilitation center, you will have a sunset wildlife drive in the reserve, followed by dinner in the Boma under the African stars.
Main destination: Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve (Panoramic Route).
Accommodation: Moholoholo Forest Camp, a luxury resort less than an hour's drive from Blyde River Canyon (Panorama Route).
An early wake-up call heralds another wonderful day in the African wilderness. This morning at daybreak, we will go on a guided bush walk with a licensed field guide. This is a fantastic opportunity to observe some of the smallest critters and plants up close, as well as some of the bigger fauna in their natural habitats.
After the bushwalk, guests at Moholoholo Forest Camp enjoy a substantial breakfast. Around midday, you are dropped off at an exclusive lodge in the Thornybush Private Game Reserve, which is part of the Greater Kruger National Park due to the lack of fences between the two.
Lunch is served before embarking on your first game drive in specially modified open 4X4 vehicles under the competent direction of a skilled field guide. Sundowners are savored deep in the bush at nightfall, followed by a drive in search of nocturnal wildlife using spotlights. Following the wildlife drive, guests return to the resort for dinner.
Main destination: Thornybush Game Reserve (Greater Kruger)
Accommodation: Jackalberry Lodge
An early wake-up call marks the beginning of another thrilling day in Big Five territory. After morning coffee and light snacks, you will embark on an early morning safari in open 4x4 vehicles, returning to the resort for a late brunch.
After breakfast, you may go on a guided bush walk with an armed ranger, who will identify spoor and droppings and reveal some of the bush's interesting mysteries. If you're lucky, you could encounter large game on foot—a very thrilling experience.
Later today, another safari is scheduled, followed by a fantastic South African supper.
Main destination: Thorny Bush Game Reserve (Greater Kruger).
Accommodation: Jackal Berry Lodge.
After a last open vehicle game drive and a late breakfast, you will be picked up at the lodge and transported back to Johannesburg over the spectacular Abel Erasmus Pass.
