Overview

Johannesburg is one of the few large cities in the world that has a “Big 5” malaria-free wildlife reserve on its doorstep. On this combination tour, you will see Big 5 animals in the Pilanesberg National Park, as well as visit the Elephant Sanctuary (included) or Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre (optional) in Hartbeespoort for an engaging elephant experience or an instructive Cheetah encounter. Both are located in the picturesque Magaliesberg and Hartebeespoort Dam areas, on the way to the Pilanesberg.

Day 1 :

Elephant Sanctuary visit and Pilanesberg Safari

Early morning pick up and drive to the Elephant Sanctuary to participate in their engagement program. Guides will provide information and insight regarding African elephants, and you will be introduced to our elephants, allowing you to touch and engage with them.
We then head to Pilanesberg National Park. Upon arrival, lunch is served at Bakabung Bush Lodge. You will then have some free time before embarking on the late afternoon game drive in an open safari vehicle. On this game drive, you'll get a true sense of the African bush while exploring the Pilanesberg's Big 5 zone. At the end of the game drive, you will return to the lodge, where dinner will be served, and spend the rest of the evening.

Day 2 :

Pilanesberg National Park and Cheetah Centre Option

Wake up early and head out for another thrilling day in Big Five territory. You go on an early morning safari and then return to the resort for a late breakfast. After breakfast, your guide will meet you at Bakubung Bush Lodge for a long game drive into Pilanesberg National Park. Our knowledgeable guides travel a bit deeper into the reserve and halt at more protected viewing areas so that you are able to better connect with the sights, sounds, and fragrances of the pure bush. Lunch will be served, and thereafter, departure to Johannesburg and dropping off at the airport or your preferred hotel. Alternatively, you may go to the Cheetah Center for a two-hour cheetah and wild dog guided tour. The Ann Van Dyk Center is dedicated to rehabilitating this and other creatures in locations where they are extinct or endangered.

There will be no lodging at the end of the journey.
